Sharon has worked with children young as six days (!!) of age. “I know the importance of a good start in life. A great education lasts a lifetime.”

Sam Allen enjoys his son's first ride on the Texas State Railroad “choo-choo”. Families and other visitors from all over the world come to our district to ride the historic train and enjoy the activities at the state park and in the surrounding community.

My Candidacy

This campaign is about caring for people. It is about valuing our children and families.

My goals are:

  • To fight for the interests of children and working families; and
  • To create economic opportunities and a bright future for East Texas.

I will work for:

The Texas Legislature has failed to adequately and fairly fund public education. We must have an educated workforce to attract business and industry to Texas.

Texas citizens must be able to compete in a global economy. Currently, our jobs are being outsourced and off-shored. We must stop the loss of good paying jobs to other countries. To attract business and industry, we must provide a skilled and educated workforce by improving public schools and ensuring access to reasonably priced higher education.

Our state parks are a treasure, providing our children and families with needed recreational and educational opportunities. Our park system is currently in a state of disrepair. Budget cuts have resulted in staff layoffs and deterioration of facilities and infrastructure. Parks are not intended to make a profit. They are designed to improve the quality of life for all Texas citizens.

Thousands of Texas children have been denied adequate health care through cuts in the Texas Children’s Health Insurance Program. Senior citizens struggle to make the choice between food and medicine. The cost of not meeting health care needs of our citizens is too high.

Our Texas veterans have sacrificed to ensure our freedom. They deserve to be provided needed services. There is a high rate of suicide among veterans returning from Iraq, especially women. Access to mental health services should be readily available and easily obtainable to help facilitate their readjustment to civilian life.

We cannot expect progress by continuing to return the same ineffective politicians to Austin. Cast your vote for Sharon Cade Davis for State Representative, District 8.
